Important news about Keeble & Shuchat

It is with great disappointment that I have to announce that Keeble and Shuchat Photography will be closing its doors in October.

It has been a great run for 51 years and I have had a great time doing it. I will miss coming to the store everyday. Ever since I was a little boy growing up in Palo Alto, it was my passion to own a camera store.

Thank you for your enthusiasm for photography, it is a bond we collectively share and it inspired me to have what I feel was the best camera store around.

I am truly blessed to have such success largely due to the loyalty of our customers and my faithful employees.

With much appreciation, humbleness and adoration I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. It was a dream come true.

Palo Alto High Schools Featured @ Keeble & Shuchat

Student Art Work on Display in the Keeble and Shuchat Gallery

Keeble and Shuchat, in partnership with the Palo Alto Unified School District, is proud to present an exhibit of photographs by students at Gunn and Palo Alto High Schools.

Sharon Ferguson, the PAUSD Art Coordinator, tells us:

There are many kinds of successful students: academic achievers, gifted writers, perfect pitch singers, outstanding athletes, accomplished musicians, and stunning visual artists. In our Strategic Goals for 2015-2016, PAUSD made a commitment to reach out, identify, and honor the diversity of success that represents our incredible spectrum of accomplishment. This exhibit acknowledges the artistic success that is taking place in PAUSD’s educational arena and represents Art Education’s commitment to share our creative diversity. Photography students, who are powerfully committed to their art, created the work in this exhibit. They go significantly beyond assignments in the classroom and the results are amazing. They are technically accomplished, but also show an evolved perspective or intention. These students take pictures that make us feel, think, and want to know more about how they do their art and why it is so important to them. They have tapped into power of art to communicate ideas, feelings and connectedness. This is significant and meaningful accomplishment!

The show is open and available for view during business hours through May 10th, 2016. The school district will host an opening reception on April 23rd from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM for the artists and the public is invited to attend the reception and meet the photographers.

Wildlife Beyond Borders

The Wildlife Beyond Borders exhibit opens on Saturday, April 16th

The artists of Wildlife Beyond Borders invite you to the opening reception to meet the photographers in person and hear their stories of inspiration.  The artists love to share their passion for wildlife, and their creative processes.

The glue that binds the artists exhibiting in “Wildlife Beyond Borders” can be found in their shared experience of an evolution of artistic thought and practice. Each artist has answered the questions: what matters, what is important, and what is worth doing, by looking outside the human condition.

The traveling exhibit, which was in residence at PhotoCentral during the winter, has attracted attention both for the quality of the artists work, and for the exciting vision that the artists share.  One was a lawyer, one a doctor, another one was once a cattle ranch manager, and one was even a hunter – they now share a common purpose, concern and love for wildlife.

Wildlife Photography Workshop with Oliver Klink

Wildlife photographer and workshop leader Oliver Klink will present a lecture and two field workshops at Keeble & Shuchat in October.

Join Oliver Klink, Friday October 2nd, 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Keeble & Shuchat for a lecture on the techniques, experience, and rewards of photographing wildlife.  Oliver will draw on his vast experience to both inform and entertain you.  This program, lavishly illustrated with Oliver’s amazing images, will give you a primer on what is necessary to make great nature images: the  technique and gear necessary to capture the images you see in galleries, on the web, and in books. Admission to the lecture is $9.99, or included at no additional cost if you register for one of the field workshops.

Join Oliver, Saturday October 3rd, 7:00AM – 11:30AM in the field and practice the techniques he teaches.  This hands on photo experience, supported by Canon, will allow you to experience first hand the rewards of photographing wildlife.  This is a complete photographic experience. You will learn photo techniques, what gear is necessary and what is optional, discuss how a knowledge of animal behavior is a critical component in the photographer’s tool box, and learn a bit of natural history about the habitat in which you are photographing. Admission to the field workshop is $179.99, and includes registration for lecture and follow up session at no additional cost.

You can also join Oliver in the afternoon,Saturday October 3rd, 12:30PM – 5:00PM for another field workshop session. Admission to the field workshop is $179.99, and includes registration for lecture and follow up session at no additional cost.

Participants in either (or both) of the field workshops are invited to join Oliver Klink, Wednesday October 7th, 1:00PM – 3:30PM at Keeble & Shuchat to share images, and discuss key issues in post-production for nature images.  Time allowing, Oliver will discuss next steps towards getting your work recognized and address participant questions. This session is included with registration for field workshop.

Oliver Klink’s studies in physics and photography were the catalyst for his love of light and the complexity of our existence. Today, as a professional photographer, he travels the world to capture the intricacy and interconnectedness of our ecosystems. The subjects BioPicture3range from fine art wildlife to vanishing traditions. The link between his various body of works, is the increasingly complex modern world constantly unfolding in new and unexpected ways. He captures our cultural changes, the environments we inhabit, and the insights into our world and ourselves. His artistic goal is telling stories with his images and making the viewers dream.

Vintage Racing Photography @ Sonoma Raceway

Vintage racing is a uniqure motorsports experience. The cars are truly the stars which makes for a great photographic experience. We traveled to Sonoma Raceway on April 11 with an enthusiastic group of customers, and the support of Canon and Victory Lane to capture the excitement.

After a great day at the track the participants were invited to submit their best photos and come back to KSP to share the images.  KSP’s own Bill Graham gave a presentation on post production and we shared experiences.

Look for more Vintage Racing events coming this fall.
