Artist’s Statement: I=EYE (the artist-creator) joins the You=EYE (the viewer of art objects) to interpret art co-equally according to respective, often variant interpretations. This exhibit offers a broad spectrum of images embodying a challenge to the imagination.
Electing bold colors, I play with cross-relationships reflected in layered, conflicting planes that portray baffling visual-events. Perplexity abounds: In the picture above, a blue ovoid nestles on a mysterious orange field. Is it an egg? You are invited to decide. The orange artifact, whatever it might mean, contrasts sharply with my photograph of a vintage kimono, an early endeavor, which contains elements appearing in later visions as joyful or sometimes foreboding leitmotifs.
Relying on life experience including travel and music for inspiration as well as computer applications for facilitation, I have watched my pictures evolve from surrealism to occasional abstract impressionism.
This and that best summarizes the compositional diversity of my visions: coconuts, travertine tile, bluestone, crosses, an industrial vacuum connector, stylized drainage cloth, birds, angels, masks, photographs, inanimate objects encountered haphazardly–all appear in a fantasy world transcending time and reality.
